Description
Mary Solon and Mary McCosker, coauthors of Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America title Lafayette and members of the Lafayette Historical Society, have gathered photographs and information from local historical societies, transportation agencies, museums, personal interviews, and other historical sources to chronicle the history of this important regional transportation link.
The Caldecott Tunnel connects Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. The original two bores of this tunnel opened in 1937, the same year as the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, and changed Contra Costa County from an area of small rural communities into one of growing suburbs.
