Millions of years before its first human inhabitants arrived, North Berkeley was strewn with fascinating rock formations. Today, the area includes a set of lovely parks where remnants of its geologic past can be seen. We’ll talk about the Native American presence in the area and how the rocks were used by these first inhabitants. We’ll discuss the creation of the parks and their role when the first housing developments were created in North Berkeley.
Note that the tour ends at the Great Stone Face Park, 0.5 miles and a 15 min. walk from the start. The guide will accompany anyone interested back. For those wishing to use mass transit, AC Transit Line 7 serves The Arlington every 60 minutes.
