Join us online at 3 pm on Sunday, March 26, to hear Emmy award-winning journalist Linda Schacht Gage speak with former Berkeley City Auditor Anna Rabkin about her time at The School That Escaped the Nazis. The recently published book by Deborah Cadbury recounts the efforts of Bunce Court School’s heroic headmistress, Anna Essinger, who before, during and after World War II, “with minimal resources,” helped educate, nurture and heal “children who had experienced the worst of humanity.” Anna Rabkin was an orphaned Polish Jew who attended the school and is featured in the book. What were the qualities that gave the school its restorative powers at that time of despair?
