A Conversation with Paul Zaentz
With its headquarters in Berkeley, the Saul Zaentz Company produced ten major motion pictures that won three Best Picture Oscars as well as numerous other awards between 1976 and 2004. Saul Zaentz also provided support to dozens of independent film makers who produced their films in Berkeley, many of whom continue their work to this day.
Paul Zaentz, Saul’s nephew, worked with his uncle between 1976 and Saul’s passing in 2014. A major film producer in his own right, Paul will discuss the formation of the Saul Zaentz Company and how it achieved its success in such an unlikely location. He will also discuss his own recent work in both motion pictures and television.
This program is in conjunction with the Berkeley and the Movies exhibit at the Berkeley Historical Society & Museum. The exhibit will be open for half an hour before and after the program, which will begin at 3:00 in the Green Room of the Veterans Memorial Building, 1931 Center Street.
