The center of Berkeley’s Southside neighborhood, tucked between Telegraph and Shattuck Avenues south of Dwight Way, contains many reminders of earlier eras including the city’s largest collection of early houses. With the help of comments by Jean Davis (1888-1981), who lived at 2227 Parker Street for the better part of nine decades, and many photos, this volume reviews the history of the area from the time of the Leonard ranch in the 1850s until the start of the 1960s.
